Longtime trustee Mary Anne Lee honored as she steps down after 21½ years

Board members and community speakers paid tribute to Mary Anne Lee in recognition of more than two decades of service to Gatesville ISD.
Colleagues described Lee as an advocate for students and for programs including career and technical education and library services; speakers praised her steady leadership and collegiality. Lee said her connection to the district began long before her board service when she spent 14 years teaching and working in the primary-school library and noted that four of her children and a daughter-in-law graduated from Gatesville. ‘‘This district isn't just where I worked or served. It's been my home, my family, and my heart,’’ Lee said.
Board members noted Lee’s role in numerous building projects and said they expect her daughter Emily — the trustee-elect mentioned in the meeting — to be sworn in at a future meeting when she is able to attend. Members invited Lee forward for remarks and took a group picture to mark the occasion.
The board’s recognition was celebratory in tone; no formal personnel actions were recorded during the public portion of the meeting.
