District 49 sets Dec. 4 special meeting to swear in newly elected directors

Board leadership reviewed statutory timing for seating newly elected directors and discussed whether officer elections should use roll-call votes or secret ballots (board policy allows both). Directors expressed concern that a newly sworn director could lack orientation or access to executive materials before immediately participating in action items; others recalled participating in action meetings at their first seated meeting.

After discussion, the board reached consensus to hold a special meeting on Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. to administer the oath of office and hold organizational business. Board members requested that no new executive items be placed on that meeting’s agenda and that staff ensure materials and orientation are provided to newly seated directors where feasible.
