Burrillville schools launch middle-school shadowing pilot and report artificial turf installation

Burrillville The Burrillville School Committee heard two facilities and program updates: a middle-school shadowing pilot that will let eighth-graders spend a full day with high-school students and an update that the town has installed artificial turf on the districts new field.
Superintendent Dr. Salito said Principal Volino developed the shadowing idea and that it recently rolled out with strong initial interest. "So far, we have 30 middle school students that have signed up to shadow," he said. The program is intended to pair middle-school students one-on-one with high-school students, keyed to pathways such as engineering and CTE offerings. The district expects to cap participation at two or three shadowing students per day per pathway and will coordinate with the bus company for drop-off and pickup.
On facilities, Dr. Salito reported that the artificial turf is down and that the town continues work on a viewing plaza, press box and new scoreboard. "All signs look like, in spring season, we'll be able to play boys and girls cross on the new field," he said. The committee also heard that the middle-school gym floor replacement was approved and is planned for the week of April vacation; some game schedules may be moved to the dome during that work.
The updates were informational; no further committee action was required at the meeting.
