At the Belle Vernon Area School District regular meeting that followed reorganization on Dec. 2, directors debated whether to solicit new proposals for solicitor services and completed several routine organizational and personnel actions.
During discussion, one director proposed issuing an RFP for solicitor services. Colleagues noted the current solicitor (identified in the transcript as Anderson Price) has longstanding institutional knowledge. As one director said, the solicitor “brings a wealth of human intelligence, long history with Belle Vernon, as well as additional resources to the table” and cautioned about potential disruption to ongoing negotiations. Other board members said the district could retain the current solicitor while seeking competitive pricing.
The board voted to approve organizational items including depositories for school funds, the newspaper of record and the 2026 meeting calendar (with a correction to the reorganization date). A later motion to add the solicitor-RFP item to the agenda went to roll-call and resulted in a 4–4 split (with at least one abstention), so the RFP was not added at that time.
On personnel matters, the board accepted the resignation of bus driver Eugene Crocell, effective Nov. 28, and approved hiring Veil Thornton as a bus driver effective immediately. The board also approved the listed substitutes and unpaid leaves and appointed Rob Harhai to fill the unexpired term of the board secretary.
