At a Clayton County special board meeting on Dec. 8, 2025, members voted 4–1 to accept the superintendent’s amended decision in student tribunal appeal 2025-2026-02 after meeting in executive session.
Chair Benjamin Straker opened the meeting and said the board needed an executive session to discuss personnel and legal matters, then called the roll. Several trustees were absent; five trustees were recorded as present for the executive-session vote. "We have a need for an executive session to discuss personnel and legal matters," Straker said before asking for a motion.
Miss Mary Baker moved to go into executive session and Miss Joy Thomas Cooper seconded. Staff asked members of the public in the meeting area to step out briefly while the board convened privately. The chair announced the voice vote was unanimous and noted a count of five.
At the return to open session, a board member clarified that the matter under consideration involved a student tribunal. "This is for student tribunal, not legal matters," one trustee said. The chair then introduced a superintendent’s amended recommendation to adjust the student tribunal hearing tied to appeal 2025-2026-02 and asked for a formal motion to accept the amended decision.
Miss Joy Thomas Cooper moved that the board accept the superintendent’s amended decision on appeal 2025-2026-02; Miss Mary Baker seconded. After brief procedural clarification about wording of the motion, members voted. Victoria Williams, Mary Baker, Joy Thomas Cooper and Chair Benjamin Straker voted yes; Mark Christmas voted no. The chair announced the result as 4–1, approving the amended recommendation.
The meeting record shows several members absent for the session; the chair then declared the special meeting adjourned at 1:13 p.m.
The board took formal action only on the student tribunal appeal recorded above; no further public deliberations or other formal actions were recorded in the transcript.
