The Harrison County Board of Education opened the meeting with an extended recognition segment honoring student athletes and activity participants across the county. Presenters read rosters and named coaches for Liberty Middle School boys soccer (Mid Mountain 10 champions) and Bridgeport Middle School teams, Bridgeport High School cross country state runner-up squads and state champions, and regional champions in volleyball, golf and cheerleading.
The board also recognized Bridgeport High School FFA national competitors, noting a silver-team finish and individual silver and bronze placements, and that one student was selected as the only FFA member from West Virginia to the national band. Coaches and activity sponsors were invited to the podium for photos and brief remarks. Meeting leadership thanked parents and volunteers and encouraged pictures at the front of the room.
Why it matters: Local recognitions highlight extracurricular achievements and community engagement across athletics, agriculture education and the arts and gave students, coaches and families public acknowledgment before the holiday season.
Next steps: The board announced similar recognitions will continue at future meetings to accommodate groups that could not fit on this agenda.
