Jones County approves historical marker, traffic signs and schedules March spring cleanup

The board approved the request and discussed sponsorship and potential contributions from local groups; commissioners agreed to add an agenda item in January to consider a related marker at Jake Woods' location.
The board also heard a resident's request for more consistent speed limit signage and children-at-play signs on Salem Miller Church Road near 480 Salem Miller Church Road. Staff recommended setting 25 mph in both directions for the agricultural-residential area and adding children-at-play signs; the board approved the change pending state-road review.
Staff reported a proposed spring cleanup date of March 28 to meet a grant timeline (90 days required for grant processing). Commissioners accepted the proposed date so staff can move forward with grant applications.
The board approved the marker placement, the traffic signage changes, and scheduled the cleanup; staff will follow up with any required permits, sponsorship coordination, and sign installation.
