After a series of walkthroughs and vendor explanations, commissioners approved moving forward with a courthouse camera system to enhance security in common areas and certain circulation points. Commissioners discussed interior versus exterior placement, monitoring options, and how grant reimbursement or bid breakout could be handled for future reimbursement.
The board voted to authorize the installation and purchase not to exceed $16,000, to be paid from Fund 002 (detention facility). Commissioners noted the proposal excluded office cameras and said the district judge (Judge Larson) had been consulted and was "good with" placement of a camera in the courtroom.
Contractors described options such as fish-eye cameras for 360-degree coverage and fixed directional cameras for hallways and basement exits. Commissioners asked staff to coordinate invoice breakout to preserve grant reimbursement options and approved the motion by voice vote.
