The House Education Committee on the record voted to report House Resolution 370, which recognizes Nov. 29, 2025, as the 50th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Chairman Cullick urged support for the measure, saying IDEA "has created countless opportunities for students with disabilities to succeed" and praising local control and parental involvement in special-education decisions. "So I will be a yes vote and urge my members to be the same," he said.
The resolution was read into the record and carried by the committee without recorded opposition; the chair announced HR 370 "will be reported as committed." The item is a nonbinding recognition rather than a change in statute or funding.
Committee members framed the resolution as a symbolic acknowledgement of long-term progress under IDEA, citing higher graduation and postsecondary enrollment among students with disabilities since the law’s enactment. The committee did not take any follow-up action beyond reporting the resolution.
The committee moved on to other business after reporting HR 370.
