Property owners seeking to sell part of a ranch told the council they had filed to annex just over 10 acres into Santaquin so prospective buyers could develop the land inside city limits.

Staff and the council clarified that tonight’s action was acceptance of the petition for study — not annexation or approval of development. Staff explained annexation acceptance triggers due diligence and future development review steps, and that development water requirements are applied at the development stage.

Council voted to accept the Sutherland annexation petition for further consideration. The applicant thanked the council for considering the request and said the family values the historical significance of the ranch.
