Goldsboro to use insurance proceeds and general funds to buy new pumper after station fire

Fire staff described the cause: "The best we can tell was there was an electrical short on a solenoid on the backside of the motor... it caught fire," and said crews contained the blaze before other equipment was damaged. Staff explained the replacement will mirror the last approved spec and has a build time of roughly 300 days (about a year to delivery).
Council approved the purchase and the associated budget resolution by show of hands. Manager Livingston said staff prefers a new apparatus to avoid inheriting maintenance problems that can accompany a used vehicle.
Next steps: Staff will order the replacement pumper and record the budget appropriation; delivery is expected in roughly 300 days.
