Bowling Green authorizes state grant applications to recover prior local match funds for Riverfront Park and 3 Springs Road sidewalk

On Dec. 2 the Bowling Green commission authorized two grant applications to the Kentucky Economic Development Cabinet’s Government Resources Accelerating Needed Transformation program to recover previously committed local match funding.
City staff said the first application seeks up to $712,500 to reimburse a match used for Riverfront Park work; staff explained the city had previously doubled its match to accelerate phases and is now applying to recover most of that contribution. "All we would need to post is the $37,500 and so we would recover $712,500 of that match," a staff presenter explained while describing the match and phasing strategy.
A second application seeks up to $104,500 to recover the city's match for a sidewalk project on 3 Springs Road (opposite Flea Land), which is already under construction or in pre-construction phases. City staff indicated both applications follow the same state grant program and that submission permission is needed to pursue reimbursement.
Commissioners praised the grants team for identifying the recovery strategy and approved both submissions on unanimous roll calls. Staff said recovering these funds would free local dollars for later phases and additional projects.
