At tonight's meeting the superintendent reported several district updates for families and trustees: Moreland is seeking volunteers for bond and parcel-tax oversight committees (virtual meetings two to four times per year, two-year terms) and encouraged interested community members to contact the district business office.
The superintendent congratulated Latimer School for being named to the 2025 California Honor Roll by the Educational Results Partnership, noting the recognition reflects sustained academic growth on state assessments. The math committee reviewed vendor presentations and selected two state-approved math programs to pilot starting in January; staff will collect data through the pilot and bring a final recommendation to the board in late May or early June for full K'8 adoption in the 2026'27 school year.
The superintendent summarized key provisions of Senate Bill 848, which the district expects to take effect on July 1, 2026. Under the law, volunteers must complete the district's mandated-reporter training (Keenan); volunteers who will be alone with students on field trips, overnight trips, or working one-on-one will be required to undergo fingerprinting. Volunteers who are within sight or line of a certificated staff member will not require fingerprinting but will be subject to the district's quick screening process.
Staff also reported recent community support: a student-run lemonade stand raised $213 and donated it to the Moreland Education Foundation (MEF), which this fall distributed approximately $22,000 in enrichment grants to schools.
