Garden Grove board elects Bob Harden president; vice president chosen

The Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education elected Trustee Bob Harden as board president and selected a trustee for vice president during its annual organizational meeting on Dec. 21. Trustee Walter Mignonato moved to nominate Harden; the motion was seconded and carried in a roll-call vote in which Student Board Representative Christy Gettachue abstained and the remaining trustees voted in favor.
The board then nominated and approved a vice president by roll-call vote; the student representative again abstained. The board approved its regular-meeting schedule through June 2026, with regular meetings set for 7 p.m. in the boardroom and closed sessions typically beginning at 5 p.m.
Why it matters: The annual officer election and adoption of meeting dates establish leadership and a calendar that will guide district governance and public access to board proceedings for the coming year.
During brief remarks after the election, Harden said, “Well, thank you to my fellow board members.” Student representative Christy Gettachue did not vote on the officer motions and registered an abstention in the roll-call.
What’s next: The board will submit its CSBA delegate designations to the California School Boards Association before March 15 and begins its next regular meeting cycle in January. The board announced the next regular meeting will be Jan. 20, with a study session and possible closed session to precede it.
