Milton School District staff presented preliminary plans to replace the district’s 1979 maintenance building with a larger facility located near Central Park (corner of Hilltop and Municipal Drive) to improve storage, receiving and operations. Officials said the current 5,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building is undersized for the district’s growth and that a new facility would remove maintenance traffic from the high-school campus.
Steven, who led the presentation, reviewed operational constraints at the existing site and proposed a relocation to the Central Park area, noting the plan includes a second access point for safe truck circulation. He said the existing maintenance building could be retrofitted as a large-animal facility for FFA if the alumni group follows through on fundraising and renovation; board members said alumni have a strong fundraising history for ag projects and indicated they are willing to proceed if the district commits to building a replacement maintenance shop.
Administrators said the project could be funded from fund 46 and that the district plans to add the project to its capital maintenance and improvement plan before any construction begins. A finance-committee review and schematic pricing will be next steps; presenters estimated a potential construction window after 2026, with FFA renovation to follow if the alumni fundraising succeeds.
