HAMPDEN — At its Dec. 2 meeting the Select Board approved a memorandum of agreement to substitute the town’s existing legal defense fund with membership in the Massachusetts Police Association legal defense option for the remainder of the current employment agreement. Town staff said the change would reduce monthly cost exposure to roughly $310 per unit member for the current year; the board approved the action by voice vote.
Town administration also updated the board on activities in the new Town Hall at 85 Grama Road. Staff reported that moves are in progress and that the library’s relocation began during the storm; the library is expected to reopen to the public next week. Ongoing projects noted include HVAC installations for the library and remaining non‑air‑conditioned offices, IT wiring, and procurement of ADA‑compliant interior signage.
In other business the board reviewed financial warrants (the AP warrant for the week was $23,506.89 and payroll warrant was $70,815.10), discussed a tree‑lighting event scheduled for Sunday night with a choir and PTO bake sale, and heard a National Grid update about planned electric service upgrades on Colony Drive and Bayberry pending permitting and roadwork approvals.
The meeting adjourned following routine committee reports and procedural motions.
