At the STARPOINT CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT meeting, the board received a first reading of a proposed cybersecurity incident response policy (identified in the meeting as Policy 58 51) intended to align district practice with recent state legislation described in the presentation as 'article 19 c.'
Mrs. Holler, who presented the policy, said the rules require notification when personally identifiable information is compromised and outlined internal response timelines: reporting certain breaches within 72 hours and notifying the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services within 24 hours if a ransom payment is made. "The goal of this policy is to protect our district data, maintain operational integrity, and ensure that we are complying with article 19 c," the presenter said.
In the technology update, staff reported the help desk had processed over 1,100 tickets since Sept. 1 and performed 352 Chromebook repairs in‑house. The district has implemented PaperCut across 10 printers to move printing through a cloud‑release workflow; staff said PaperCut makes it easier to protect sensitive documents and reduce waste. A staff member noted plans to digitize copy‑center request workflows so faculty can submit copy requests through PaperCut.
Staff also described an upcoming add‑on called 'Rooms' to the district’s existing vendor (described in the presentation as the vendor providing the website and alert system). The 'Rooms' feature, which will integrate with the Starpoint app, is intended to consolidate messaging (replacing apps such as Remind and Seesaw over time) and allow targeted communications — for example, separate rooms for AM and PM bus routes. The district said rollout will be methodical and that it has an existing contract with the vendor for alerting services, which simplifies procurement.
The board treated the cybersecurity policy as a first reading; no adoption vote was taken. Technology staff said they will continue implementation steps for PaperCut and the Rooms integration and will provide updates during future meetings.
