Students, athletes and Tiger Band recognized at Marple Newtown School Board meeting

The Marple Newtown School Board recognized students and extracurricular programs during its Nov. 25 meeting, highlighting athletic and performing-arts accomplishments and summarizing student activities.
Board members presented commendations to cross-country qualifiers and top performers. The board recognized Julia Bouthma and Sloan Smith for state-level cross-country results and noted historical fastest times recorded for Marple students: a boy (listed as Julian) with a time of 16:09 and a girl (Sloan) with a time of 17:39. The board acknowledged efforts to verify historical comparisons.
The Marple Newtown Tiger Band was recognized for taking first place in the US Bands championship with a score of 93.5 and winning awards for best visual, best overall effect, best color guard and best percussion. Band director Mister Beltrante and student leader Jake Olimpi were thanked for preparation and planning; the district plans to share a performance video link in the Tiger's Pride newsletter next week.
Student representatives also reported schoolwide events: a Nov. 5 band, orchestra and choir concert at Pikes Hollow; the theatrical run of The Crucible with multiple shows; Powerpuff flag football matchups and championship; the CanJam food-drive tournament requiring teams to bring 15 cans each with over 60 teams participating; and upcoming half days and parent-teacher conferences.
The superintendent, Tina, reiterated district highlights including elementary school drives, Veterans Day tributes and an art recognition event at the high school, and wished the community a happy Thanksgiving.
