Ashley Lowing, an instructional coach with Cedar Springs Public Schools, said she grew up in Cedar Springs and returned to the community after college to teach and support local schools. She described her work supporting K-5 teachers, conducting diagnostic assessments, modeling lessons and tracking student growth, and said she is pursuing an administrative certification.
Lowing outlined a career path that began in classroom teaching and progressed to district instructional coaching. "I actually got my first teaching position in Comstock Park," she said, and later took a role back in Cedar Springs as a third-grade teacher before moving into instructional coaching. In her coaching role, she said, "I work with all of our K-five teachers, support them in curriculum implementation." She described entering classrooms to pull students for assessments and to model lessons for teachers.
She emphasized tracking student progress across elementary grades: "I love being able to track our students K 5 and see their growth and go back and share those successes," she said. Lowing also highlighted her role as a longtime athletics coach: "I am our varsity volleyball coach. This is my twelfth year," which she said helps her form relationships with high school students.
Lowing said she is pursuing administrative certification and expressed a desire to continue her career in the district: "For me, that role is just so exciting... So when I think about my future, I want to stay a Red Hawk." Her remarks focused on staff development, student assessment practices and local continuity of staffing. She closed by restating her connection to the community: "I'm Ashley and I'm a Red Hawk."
