Board awards fairgrounds arena equipment contract to Prefer USA for $50,186.20

Moffat County commissioners on Dec. 9 approved a staff-recommended contract award for arena equipment at the county fairgrounds, accepting a Prefer USA bid for $50,186.20.
Staff from Development Services and the fairgrounds, introduced as Neil Binder and Tyler Scott, said the county issued the RFP on Nov. 18 and received four bids when the solicitation closed Dec. 4. Binder said staff favored the Prefer USA bid because the companys bucking chutes are heavier built with a heavier gauge steel and offer color options and a welded three-cluster delivery that reduces onsite assembly.
"Prefer bucking chutes are just a little better quality, and they're heavier built at a heavier gauge steel," said Kyler, a fairgrounds staffer, explaining the preference and the options for a Moffat County blue finish. Staff noted that a Powder River-style bid would require pinning units together and additional painting that could push costs above the preferred vendors price.
A commissioner moved to accept the recommendation to award the fairgrounds arena equipment contract to Prefer USA for $50,186.20; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Staff indicated the fairgrounds will purchase three left-hand and three right-hand deliveries to replace older white chutes and to improve durability and appearance. The county will proceed with contracting and required procurement documentation.
