Elliot Lawrence, the county 4‑H educator, reported 366 participants in 2025 (up from 298 in 2024) and said Becker County’s retention rate is approximately 87 percent — higher than the statewide average. "4‑H is the world's largest youth serving organization," Lawrence said, describing programming that culminates in the county fair and statewide events.
Extension office manager Linda Prine and Master Gardener volunteer Nick Williams described the Master Gardener program’s local scale: 24 active Master Gardeners recording a cumulative 1,369 volunteer hours and delivering programs such as pest clinics, seed‑starting and school and library outreach. Williams noted the Independent Sector’s valuation of volunteer hours and the county program’s outreach to more than 700 local residents through advice and formal programs.
Commissioners thanked extension staff and volunteers and discussed continuing financial and administrative support. Staff said upcoming requests and grant opportunities would be presented separately for approval.
Next steps: extension will continue program tracking and return with any formal funding requests as needed.
