Mount Olive AME raises urgent water-bill and service concerns; county staff to follow up

Members of Mount Olive AME told Putnam County commissioners the congregation faces a substantial, unresolved water bill that threatens the church's ability to continue operating.
A church representative said repeated visits to county offices produced limited resolution and that the outstanding balance has risen to about $3,464. She described attempts to identify leaks and said volunteers have capped fixtures to limit use while the issue is investigated. "We have to have money behind that effort, and right now, it's not," she said, asking for county assistance.
Commissioner(s) and Administrator Suggs responded: staff said this was the first time the administrator had been made aware of the matter and that staff will meet with the congregation to identify the source of the bills. Suggs offered his business card and committed to coordinating with Public Works staff (Mr. Stout) to determine whether an authorized meter shutoff request was made and whether any administrative remedy or temporary measures are available.
Next steps: Administrator Suggs and Public Works will schedule a meeting with church representatives, review meter records and the billing history, and return to the commissioners with findings and options.
