North Scott board honors staff and students with Lancer Pride awards; performing arts medalists recognized

The North Scott Community School District board on Monday recognized a slate of staff and students for “Lancer Pride” contributions and for honors at the Iowa SBN Festival. Board members called attention to counselors and advisors who support concurrent enrollment and college-and-career planning.

Emily Jessen was singled out for four years of service to the district, transitioning from Eastern Iowa Community College to become a school counselor and as head coach of the girls tennis team. Lori Perez — identified by a presenter as the district’s concurrent academic adviser — was praised for her work coordinating concurrent college classes and supporting students taking college-level courses while in high school.

Administrators read a long roster of student award winners from the recent festival, including first- and second-place winners in musical and technical categories, and noted that ensembles and soloists from the district earned multiple placings. The board highlighted a Lego team that won a regional competition and was invited to a state-level event.

The board’s recognition segment emphasized both extracurricular successes and staff efforts to prepare students for postsecondary options. No board action was required; the segment concluded with applause and brief remarks of thanks.
