Orinda — The Orinda City Council unanimously voted on Dec. 2 to place an item on a future agenda to study e-bike safety and coordinate with the local school district.
During council reports, a member said a recent 2x2 meeting with the school district covered e-bike concerns and that the district agreed more education for parents and riders is needed. The city manager said his notes from that meeting indicated "there's 20 to 30 bikes, ebikes at OIS." Council members asked staff to return with options for education, potential regulation or pilot programs and to explore partnerships with the school district.
At matters initiated, a council member formally requested placing the topic on a future agenda and another council member seconded the request. The council then voted to place the item on a future agenda, with no council members opposed.
Next steps: staff will prepare an agenda item for a future meeting addressing e-bike education and potential city–district coordination; council flagged the issue for further study and public outreach.
