Weber County holds first unified planning commission meeting, elects temporary chair

At its first meeting after the county dissolved two separate planning commissions, the new Weber County Planning Commission elected a temporary chair and vice chair and reviewed an agenda that included development agreements, conditional-use permits and multiple subdivision proposals.
The newly consolidated Weber County Planning Commission met and elected Commissioner Andrew Fivero as temporary chair and Casey Veil as temporary vice chair for this meeting. The consolidation follows an ordinance enacted by the county commission that dissolved the prior Ogden Valley and Western Weber planning commissions and took effect Dec. 3, shifting countywide advisory jurisdiction to a single planning body.
Liam, a county planning staff member, explained that state law defaults to one planning commission for a county and that the county commission used its authority to consolidate the two prior commissions. The planning body will now make recommendations on land-use actions across the unincorporated county until the county commission decides otherwise.
The commission also approved minutes for recent meetings and adopted a proposed 2026 meeting calendar that sets meetings on the first Tuesday of each month, with a second Tuesday scheduled in months with two meetings. The meeting closed after routine business and public comments; several citizens urged additional scrutiny of growth and infrastructure in Ogden Valley, which commissioners said will be part of future deliberations.
