Andalusia
At a brief year-end meeting, the Andalusia City Council approved two rezoning ordinances affecting properties along West Bypass and Highway 55 and approved participation in a Lexipol training program for the Andalusia Police Department. The council also approved minutes from its Dec. 2, 2025 meeting and set its next regular session for Jan. 6, 2026.
The council opened the meeting with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance before moving into procedural business. The presiding officer introduced a second-reading ordinance to rezone a parcel described in the meeting as 1806 West Bypass from Ag-1 to B-3 (Business 3). The presiding officer noted a minor correction to the legal description would be made before publication and recommended adoption. "I move that we approve ordinance number 20 20 five-five rezoning 1806 West Fast Pass, with a corrected description, that it be reclassified from a g 1 to b 3," a councilmember said during the motion. Another councilmember seconded the motion and the ordinance was approved by voice vote; the presiding officer announced the ordinance was adopted.
The council then considered a second-reading ordinance described in the transcript as "2025-06" to rezone the corner of West Bypass and Highway 55 from Ag-1 to B-3. The presiding officer said the rezoning "brings those zones in line with what our long range plan is for business" along the route. A motion to adopt the ordinance was seconded and approved by voice vote; the presiding officer described the result as unanimous.
Later in the agenda, the presiding officer presented a request from the police chief to participate in a Lexipol training program, noting Lexipol is the vendor the city uses for some camera systems and provides training services for officers. During discussion the presiding officer and councilmembers referenced a multi-year fee arrangement but the transcript includes conflicting figures when the presiding officer described the vendor s pricing (the mayor said the program "agreed to do 15 months for 3,600. Is that right? Or the 42? Or they're gonna do they're gonna do 15 months for $43.20 and then then the following 12 months and year and yearly after it would be $3,600"). The presiding officer also said the funds for the initial period are already available in the city budget. A motion to approve the Lexipol training program was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The council approved the Dec. 2, 2025 minutes earlier in the meeting after a motion recorded as moved by Mister Mount and seconded by Mister Nicks. The vote was taken by voice and recorded in the transcript as "Aye" with no opposed votes noted.
The meeting closed with holiday wishes and a brief remark about seasonal activities discussed earlier in the evening. The council set its next regular meeting for Jan. 6, 2026, and adjourned.
Notes: The transcript contains a misspelling of "Andalusia" in the prayer (appears as "Analuzha"); the first rezoning ordinance number is not stated clearly in the transcript (rendered as "20 20 five-five"). Pricing figures for the Lexipol agreement were stated inconsistently on the record; the council stated budget funds are available for the initial enrollment period.
