Nacogdoches gets a summer baseball team: 'Nacogdoches Niners' unveiled

The council heard a presentation from the Mid America League on Nov. 18 announcing a new summer baseball franchise for Nacogdoches and revealing the team name: the Nacogdoches Niners.
League Commissioner Nick Weisenborn described the Mid America League as a hybrid collegiate/pro summer league founded in 2024 and said the Nacogdoches market produced two to three times the name submissions the league typically sees. Jayce Green, introduced as the franchise general manager and a Nacogdoches native, presented logo and uniform designs and said team season tickets are available. The presentation noted a roster model that includes collegiate players and some professional players seeking re‑entry opportunities; the league will play a 64‑game schedule with 32 home games between late May and early August.
Council members welcomed the team and pledged support for attendance and community engagement. The presenters said a mascot‑naming contest will begin and the team website will host merchandise and information.
