Groveport Madison board advances gifted plan, radon testing and other district business amid governance turmoil

Administration said clustering will reduce pull-outs and keep advanced students with peers in their home classrooms, and that schedules and rosters will be adjusted next year.
Radon mitigation and facilities: The board considered resolutions and contracts to perform radon testing district-wide and install mitigation systems at Dunlow Elementary. Administrators said the testing and mitigation work is time-sensitive and they intend to use multi-day holiday weekends to complete three-day tests and, where necessary, install systems over breaks.
Professional development: Administration presented a proposal to host a two-day Solution Tree Professional Learning Community (PLC) event locally, plus six days of embedded coaching during the 2026–27 school year. Estimated cost ranges were presented (administration estimated roughly $150,000 for a full implementation) and staff said selling seats to outside districts could recover a portion of the expense.
Other items: The board approved routine personnel and contract actions, special education contracts, and course/trip approvals (including a high-school cheer trip to Las Vegas). The board also joined the Ohio School Boards Association Legal Assistance Fund for $250 and approved the second reading of numerous policy updates.
What happens next: Administration will post the gifted plan and produce an implementation calendar for roster adjustments; facilities staff will present a testing and mitigation schedule for public review; the PLC proposal will return with final contract numbers before any firm commitment.
