Council approves MnDOT and Viking Coca‑Cola curb-cut requests; no cost to city

The Committee of the Whole approved two separate driveway/curb-cut requests during its Dec. 2 meeting.
Matt Reed of SEH recommended the MnDOT Hoover Road site plan be approved after reviewing geometry and design criteria; he said the request includes four curb openings and “my recommendation would be to go ahead and approve it.” Councilor Johnson moved to approve the plan, Councilor Paulson supported the motion, and the committee approved the request by voice vote; staff confirmed there is no cost to the city for the curb cuts.
Later in the meeting, Jeremy Schwartz, representing Viking Coca‑Cola and Rice Companies, presented a driveway relocation and entrance-width request for a new facility on North 9th Avenue. Staff recommended removing an older curb cut and creating a wider entrance (approximately 48 feet) to accommodate full‑size interstate semis. The council moved, seconded and approved the driveway plan by voice vote.
Both approvals will allow the applicants to proceed with site plans; no city capital outlay was approved for either item at this meeting.
