Monroe Township honors volunteers at annual appreciation event

Monroe Township presented its annual volunteer appreciation awards during the Dec. 1 council meeting, honoring community members and organizations for sustained service to residents.
Mayor Steven Delina presented awards to three recipients. He said the Parikh family transformed personal tragedy into a community mission through the OM Foundation, which supports children battling cancer and contributes to research and school programs. "To all the volunteers who stand beside this mission, thank you," Delina said during the ceremony.
The council recognized Jack Kirschenbaum for decades of civic and veterans' work. Kirschenbaum, a licensed psychologist who served in American Legion and Jewish War Veterans posts, accepted the award and thanked the many volunteers and staff who support veterans' events and student programs.
The final award went to the Friends of the Senior Center, recognized for 35 years of volunteer service supporting senior programs, food pantry operations and the center's events. A representative noted the group's broad volunteer board and long commitment to the township.
Council president Miriam Cohen and other members said the awards reflect the range of volunteer contributions across Monroe, from veterans' services to senior care. The ceremony included brief remarks, a group photo recess, and invitations for residents to participate in upcoming community seasonal events.
