County commits $94,398 to Cooperative Wildfire System; $75,000 earmarked toward brush truck

Corey Auger, the county fire warden, presented the Uintah County 2026 participation commitment to the Cooperative Wildfire System (CWS) and the county’s cooperative agreement with Forestry, Fire and State Lands.
Auger said the county's participation dropped to $94,398, primarily because the Taylor Mountain fire of 2014 no longer factors into the 10‑year fire cycle calculation. He described coordination with Jeremy Raymond, director of the fire district, and said the fire district has included the county commitment in its budget.
Auger noted $75,000 of the county commitment is intended to contribute toward a brush truck that will serve the entire county; he said the total cost of the brush truck is $300,000 and the agreement allows using 25% of that cost over the next four years. Auger also said the high‑risk map from Forestry, Fire and State Lands is scheduled to be released Thursday and he will distribute it to municipalities and stakeholders when available.
Commissioners asked whether the participation commitment required county signature; Auger confirmed a signature will be required on the agreement's signature page. The commission approved the participation commitment as presented.
