The Decatur City Council voted unanimously to adopt the International Property Maintenance Code, 2018 edition, replacing the city's prior 2009 code reference.
A city staff member explained the change is primarily technical: the city's new code-enforcement software references the 2018 edition, so the ordinance brings the municipal code into alignment with that tool. "This will just bring us up to the 2018 code," the staff member said, adding the main reason for the update is software compatibility.
Councilmember McMasters moved the ordinance; Miss Werschler seconded. On roll call the measure passed with unanimous ayes.
The ordinance was approved without recorded amendments; staff did not expand enforcement parameters beyond those included in the 2018 code during the discussion.
