Resident urges district action after sidewalks and bike lanes near High School South are obstructed

Laura Kellogg Abraham, a resident of 23 Lenape Lane, asked the board to address pedestrian safety for students walking to High School South, saying there is "not a safe passageway for most of our walkers." She told the board that leaf collection and yard debris have been piled into bike lanes so walkers must move into Pen Lisle and Harris Street, which she described as narrow and at higher speed; she reported near misses and insufficient town enforcement.

Kellogg Abraham said homeowners are sometimes not shoveling sidewalks and that bridge closures and rerouted traffic have increased congestion and driving near the schools. She urged the district to work with municipal officials to find solutions and offered to help with community coordination.

The board acknowledged the concern during committee reports and noted that sidewalk maintenance and public‑way enforcement generally fall to municipal authorities; members said they would take the concern under advisement and suggested continued communication between district staff and town officials to improve safe walking routes.

No formal action or funding was approved at this meeting; the resident asked for district assistance in facilitating a solution that avoids expanding transportation costs for families.
