Decatur council approves temporary downtown parking-deck fee waiver during construction

The Decatur City Council on a 5–0 vote approved a temporary waiver of parking-deck fees to help merchants affected by nearby construction.
Herman, a city staff member, told the council the change was requested because construction on Molton Street was making on-street parking scarce. "We were asked to because of the construction on Molton Street in the area of certain restaurants and other stores, it's very difficult for people to find a place to park," he said, adding the waiver would apply "from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day" and would be in effect until June 1.
Councilmember McMasters moved to approve the resolution; Mr. Bullard seconded. Roll call recorded five ayes and the resolution passed 5–0.
Council members said the temporary pause on fees aims to encourage customers to use the downtown deck during peak holiday construction and to support small businesses until the work is finished. No amendments or contingencies were added. The waiver takes effect as described by staff and will remain in place through the date staff specified unless the council later revisits the measure.
