During the non‑agenda public comment period at the Dec. 4 Rancho Mirage City Council meeting, members of the public raised several distinct concerns.
Susan Ragsdale said she is currently homeless, described difficulties with a prior housing situation and alleged the city had "stonewalled" her and engaged in a "fraud cover up." She asked for compensation and offered to contribute artistic work to the city. The council did not provide a direct response on the record to her allegation during the public comment period.
Alex Cruz pressed the council on traffic safety and public transportation, citing locations where fatalities occurred (Ramon Road by Rancho Mirage High School and intersections near Christopher Vergios and John Hanabri). Cruz asked for a bus stop at the high school, completion of missing crosswalks, and lane reductions to create bus lanes and reduce speeding.
Other speakers questioned the city’s appointment process for council offices, expressed skepticism about spending $2 million on Eisenhower (a hospital–associated item raised during public comment), and urged greater attention to crime, unions and affordable housing outcomes.
These comments represent a range of public concerns the council may consider in future agenda items or administrative follow‑up; the meeting adjourned to closed session later in the agenda and the city attorney reported no reportable action on litigation items upon reconvening.
