The Marblehead School Committee policy subcommittee voted to advance five MASC-recommended policies to the full school committee for a second reading. The policies moved forward included access to buildings and grounds (ECAB), school meal modifications (EFB A), civil-rights complaint procedures for child nutrition programs (EFE), district security relating to technology (EHAA), and data and records retention (EHB).
Superintendent John Rabideau told the subcommittee he had reviewed the set and recommended adoption. A subcommittee member made a motion to approve the five policies for a first reading at the full committee; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote recorded as 2–0.
Members said the package mostly reflects MASC model language and district practices; the subcommittee discussed that the walkers-and-riders transport policy would deviate from some MASC distance recommendations for budgetary and local-practice reasons. The committee also held several items back from consent (notably the security-camera policy) for further legal or operational review.
Next steps: these five policies will appear on the full school committee agenda for a second reading and possible final action. Members said they will flag where the subcommittee intentionally differs from MASC wording when submitting the packet to the full committee.
