Summary
The committee approved a prioritized FY27 capital request list that identifies $935,000 in priority-1 items (bus camera upgrades, playground safety work, field-house painting/padding/flooring, Veterans Middle School clock/PA replacement, wireless access point renewal) and asked administration for further prioritization guidance for town budget conversations.
The Marblehead School Committee on Nov. 18 approved the administration’s FY27 capital priority list and asked staff to refine the top items ahead of town budget review.
Administration said its priority-1 requests total $935,000 and include upgrades to bus camera systems, safety work at Glover School playground (rock removal and surface), and three field-house projects at Marblehead High: repainting, wall padding replacement and flooring work. Other priority-1 items cited were a Veterans Middle School clock/PA system replacement and work on village-school fencing near Hopkins Field. Priority-2 and -3 items include playground shade, gym lighting replacements, restroom refreshes under the village stands and rolling-stock (two aging buses nearing the end of life).
Presenters emphasized that some items (for example, the field-house painting versus flooring) can be staged and that technology needs such as wireless access-point licensing are important to maintain device control and classroom instruction. The committee discussed life-safety items and flagged bus cameras, playground hazards and the clock/PA systems as high-safety priorities.
Committee members voted to approve the priority list (motion by Janet; second by Melissa) by a recorded voice vote; the motion carried 4–0. Administration said it will return with refinements and an A/B/C recommendation should funding be limited by the town’s capital process.
