The Worthington Board of Education on Dec. 8 recognized Jennifer Best for 24 years of service, with board members and the superintendent highlighting her role in creating programs and safety measures across the district.
At its Dec. 8 meeting, the Worthington Board of Education formally recognized board member Jennifer Best for 24 years of service to the district. The board voted to approve a motion honoring Best, and several members and the superintendent offered tributes to her long tenure and contributions.
Board President Kelly Davis moved the recognition and said the board was "so grateful for you and your leadership." Superintendent Dr. Trent Bowers used his report to catalogue programs and facilities that Best supported during her time on the board, saying her votes helped establish Phoenix Middle School, Worthington Academy, Center Park Preschool, Perry Middle School, Worthington Kilbourne High School, the district's International Baccalaureate program and all‑day kindergarten.
Jennifer Best thanked the board and attendees and quipped about her tenure: "It's been a great 23 of the 24 years because I'm just ignoring 2020." Members described Best as an advocate for student safety and expanded wraparound services, citing her support for visitor check‑in procedures, high‑school safety monitors and increased counseling and nursing services.
The board presented Best with a token of appreciation and expressed hope she would remain engaged with the district in other ways. The recognition was ceremonial; no policy action accompanied the tribute. The meeting then proceeded to regular agenda business.
