The Village of Salem Lakes on Dec. 2 acknowledged a lifesaving rescue and approved routine equipment maintenance for the fire department.
Chief Jill Torres described a recent acquisition: a fully outfitted command vehicle purchased with the assistance of a federal/state grant of about $69,000. "We're exceptionally proud of the work that was put together by Chief Keske and Chief Torres to acquire the car," she said, noting the vehicle is in service and intended to improve response coordination.
The board also considered renewal of a one‑year worry‑free service plan for four ZOLL X‑series cardiac monitors. Division Chief Torres explained that the plan (purchased at time of the monitors in 2021) reduces replacement and repair costs — for example, replacing a battery can cost about $800, cables are discounted roughly 27 percent under the plan, and a replacement monitor can cost about $40,000–$50,000. The board approved the service contract for $6,830.08 (voice vote after a motion and second).
Earlier in the meeting Fire Rescue leaders presented certificates recognizing firefighter‑paramedic Ashley Miller, Jason Kyra, Eduardo Cruz, James Kirby, Allison/Lisonbee Pierce and Assistant Chief Mike Keske for a Sept. 19 vehicle extrication and resuscitation that led to the patient being discharged neurologically intact. Representatives from Froedtert South Emergency Department and EMS coordinator Dave Piccolo praised the crew, noting the low odds of survival from out‑of‑hospital cardiac arrest and celebrating the successful outcome.
The board thanked the crew and commended its training and teamwork. The ZOLL contract renewal was approved by voice vote; no roll‑call tally was recorded in the transcript.
