Airport master plan advances; city staff say ordinance language has broad stakeholder support

"We have hundreds of hours into the master plan that the city approved to make sure we're filling its goal of protecting local pilots, promoting commercial air service, and promoting economic growth," the airport manager said, adding staff had completed two compliance documents linked to the master plan.

The airport director said the process included outreach and negotiation with stakeholders to build trust and resolve conflicting viewpoints.
The airport manager told the council the group "built trust" and produced language with broad support: "We're a consensus 90% of it, and we'll let Jared and the rest of the team take it from there," he said, indicating staff will take the draft ordinance through administration for placement on a future council agenda.
No votes or ordinance adoptions were taken at the work session. Staff said they are prepared to answer questions at the evening council meeting and that additional details, including formal ordinance text, will be brought forward for review and action at the appropriate public meeting.
Council members praised the progress during the briefing and thanked staff for the work. The update was provided as an information item ahead of the formal meeting agenda.
