Council orders plans for North High Street reconstruction

The Marshall City Council voted Nov. 25 to order improvements and prepare plans for a full reconstruction of North High Street between North 4th Street and Oak. City Engineer and Director of Public Works Jason Anderson told the council the project would include replacement of water and sanitary sewer mains, new drainage, sanitary sewer work in the alley between 5th and 6th Streets, and a stretch of river bank stabilization near 5th Street.
Anderson said staff held a property-owner informational meeting on Nov. 18 and that the city's PIT committee reviewed the project on Oct. 2. He recommended the council move forward with ordering the improvements; the council then voted to adopt the related resolution. The resolution orders preparation of construction plans and authorizes staff to return at a future meeting with plans for council approval and bidding.
The measure required a supermajority to proceed; staff indicated that threshold was met in the roll call.
Next steps: Public Works will prepare construction plans, coordinate required design approvals, and return to council for plan approval and contract award.
