An EDC staff member told the San Juan economic development board on Nov. 18 that donated supplies are ready to support downtown revitalization projects and praised last weekend’s Moonlight Market as an early success.
"We're making good progress on the donations, received so far, 4 or 5 gallons of paint along with 50 ... painting kits," the staff member said, noting that many items and bags were donated and that the event had minimal net cost to the EDC. The staff member reported approximately 40 vendors and two live bands at the market.
Board members and a community speaker applauded staff efforts. A board member thanked the EDC staff for organizing the event and urged continuation of similar events as the holidays approach, saying they help bring residents "out of the shadows" and support local businesses. A community member who spoke during the meeting said increased police visibility had made them "feel very safe."
Officials described several outreach steps used to promote the market, including signage at Nebraska Avenue, flyers, social media and the city website. Board members characterized the Moonlight Market as a first step intended to grow over time, recommending the program be repeated monthly or quarterly to expand participation.
The EDC did not announce a specific schedule or budget for future markets at the meeting; staff said continued donor support and event promotion would guide next steps.
