A committee member introduced a merged draft of the Middleton Affordable Housing Action Plan and asked members for feedback on structure and content. “So the next agenda item is our draft affordable housing action plan,” said Unidentified Speaker 2, summarizing that staff combined both subcommittees’ documents and noted that Scott wrote a short memo outlining what’s been done to date.
The committee focused on editing logistics and timeline rather than debating substantive policy details. Unidentified Speaker 2 told members the plan’s layout and outreach sections were drawn from the subcommittees and asked participants who worked on background and outreach to flag anything missing. The staff member committed to distributing a Word version so members could use tracked changes and inline comments: “I’ll send that out to you guys, later tonight,” Unidentified Speaker 2 said.
Members suggested editorial and explanatory improvements to make the draft clearer for public audiences. “Loving all the graphs and all of the visuals there,” said Unidentified Speaker 1, while asking for explicit labels and short explanatory text for each figure so readers know what to notice. Unidentified Speaker 3 offered to copy-edit the final draft before broader release.
The committee discussed document structure and appendices. One member said an FAQ defining housing types (previously shared in the committee’s files) could be included as an appendix, and staff agreed the main plan should remain condensed with supplemental detail appended for readers who want more technical definitions.
Scheduling and next steps were central to the meeting. Unidentified Speaker 2 said the next combined meeting with the workforce housing CEA is planned for Dec. 11, and that meeting will concentrate on completing charts and filling in the plan’s priority areas, which are intentionally left blank in the draft for committee prioritization. “As you’re going through the document…write down…how you would prioritize that,” Unidentified Speaker 2 said.
The committee also set deadlines to keep the effort on schedule. Members were asked to return comments by the week of Dec. 1, with a stated hard deadline of Dec. 5 to give staff time to organize edits. “That way…we have that next week to…make all those edits and changes,” Unidentified Speaker 2 said. The group aims to finalize the plan for adoption in March or April and plans public input sessions (open house or event-based outreach) once the draft reaches about 90% completion.
No formal motions or votes were recorded during the meeting. The committee concluded with an adjournment at 5:15 p.m.; staff will circulate the editable draft and the timeline referenced during the meeting.
