Board highlights Students of the Month and new sensory hallway at North Coleman Road

At its meeting the Middle Country Central School District Board of Education recognized several Students of the Month and heard brief community-oriented reports.
Miss Pielen, principal of North Coleman Road Elementary, led the pledge and introduced Students of the Month (Haley August, Issa Ali and Arham Bagh), and described a newly unveiled sensory hallway designed to help students "focus, engage, and feel calm enough to absorb knowledge." She said the hallway was a year-long project involving teachers, custodial staff and buildings & grounds and called it a "holistic approach" to support student learning.
Mr. Miranda introduced Selden Middle School’s December Student of the Month, Alejandro Linares Figueroa, summarizing teachers' praise for his leadership, kindness and consistent effort. Another presenter recognized Alyssa Correa as Dawnwood Middle School’s Student of the Month and cited strong quarter grades and leadership in band and clubs.
PTA representatives (Miss McCumber and Laurie Ann Flanagan were referenced) reported on recent events and said a Boosterthon glow run raised more than $21,000 to support new playground equipment, field day enhancements, and arts and education programs.
Board members offered thanks to staff and volunteers for the projects and recognitions. There was no public input and the meeting moved on to routine agenda business.
