The Pacific Grove Unified School District board unanimously approved a side‑letter agreement on Nov. 20 allowing classified employees represented by the California School Employees Association to leave 30 minutes after student dismissal on the Thanksgiving minimum day.
District staff said the provision mirrors language in the tentative agreement with the teachers’ association for minimum days but that some classified positions (for example, BASRP staff and some custodial roles) cannot readily leave 30 minutes after dismissal and will require supervisors to identify make‑up time or temporary coverage.
A trustee asked whether this language had been agreed to during prior negotiations; staff said the provision had been discussed in PGTA negotiations but complications prevented inclusion in the earlier CSEA tentative agreement and required the district to craft a separate side‑letter now for the Thanksgiving minimum day. Staff said the district will continue negotiating details for other minimum days (winter break, spring break and the last day of school) and bring additional agreements forward as needed.
The board moved to approve the Thanksgiving minimum‑day side‑letter; the motion passed 5‑0.
What’s next: District staff will work with supervisors and CSEA to ensure equitable coverage where roles cannot leave early, and will return to the board with additional minimum‑day arrangements when details are settled.
