Roanoke City Council unanimously approves multiple closed sessions on board vacancies, personnel and legal matters

Roanoke City Council reconvened Monday, Dec. 1, and approved motions to enter closed meetings covering five matters: vacancies on certain authorities and commissions; consideration of the 2025 Citizen of the Year award; annual performance evaluations of council-appointed officers; consultation with outside counsel on legal standards for school financing; and consultation with counsel about a prospective business expansion in northwest Roanoke.

The presiding speaker opened the session by saying, “We have a couple of items for action and they are all closed meeting action items,” and then read each closed-meeting request aloud. For the request concerning vacancies on authorities, boards, commissions and committees the presiding speaker described it as a “communication from my office requesting that council convene in a closed meeting to discuss vacancies on certain authorities, boards, commissions, and committees.”…
