Mayor Toutai described a history of the district—s contributions to the SRO program, saying the district had increased payments over time. "Years ago, when they started off, it was, like, $10,000 that they were paying towards the SRO. Then we got it bumped up to 25,000, and then most recently ... at $50,000," the mayor said, adding that Superintendent Deb Kerr "stepped up the game" and that the school had signaled support for keeping Officer Pukula assigned to the district.
Council discussion indicated the MOU is a year-to-year arrangement to be reviewed annually. A council member identified as Catherine moved to approve the agreement; the motion was seconded and ayes were recorded by multiple council members.
Next steps: The SRO assignment will proceed under the MOU; the council will review the arrangement on an annual basis per the agreement's year-to-year language.
