Ashland reports progress on assisted housing: 44 vouchers issued, goal of 500 by 2026

The City of Ashland Community & Economic Development Department updated the Board of City Commissioners on the assisted‑housing program on Nov. 20.
Director Pullum reported the program’s target of 500 Housing Choice Vouchers for Ashland families by 2026. He said 44 vouchers were issued on Nov. 4, moving families off the waiting list, and that inspectors completed eight housing inspections that week. Four additional families were awaiting re‑inspection at the time of the meeting. Pullum said staff planned another tenant briefing in December to issue roughly 20 more vouchers and that, with those actions, the city expects to exceed the 500‑voucher goal.
Pullum credited program staff and the homeless committee for ongoing work and described the lease‑up process (tenant briefing, voucher issuance, tenancy agreement review, inspection and reinspection). He also noted staffing shortages and a server problem earlier in the year contributed to a temporary decline from previous voucher levels near 500.
Commissioners thanked staff for the work and asked follow‑up questions about competitiveness of payment standards and administrative impacts.
