Wallingford-Swarthmore school board swears in new members, elects officers at reorganization meeting

The Wallingford-Swarthmore School District Board of School Directors convened a reorganization meeting on Dec. 1, 2025, at the Strathaven Middle School library to swear in newly elected directors and choose officers for the coming year. The board elected Michelle Williams president and Mary Jo Witkowski Smith vice president, and approved its Jan.–Dec. 2026 meeting calendar.

The meeting opened with roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by an announcement that written notice of the meeting had been mailed to directors on Nov. 17, 2025. The Delaware County Board of Elections’ certification of results was read aloud; the certification listed Dr. Melissa Crawford, Hermann Tibble, Rachel Hallmark and Marlene Livingstone among those duly elected to the board. Judge Stephanie Klein of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas administered the oaths of office to newly elected and reelected board members.

During the nominations phase, board members nominated and elected officers by acclamation. "All those in favor, please say aye," the presiding officer asked during each acclamation vote; board members responded and no opposition was recorded in the meeting record. Michelle Williams was declared president; Mary Jo Witkowski Smith was declared vice president. Nanette Witsett was selected assistant board secretary, and Robert Miller was selected treasurer. The president announced committee appointments (Education Affairs, Facilities and Finance, Policy, Wellness, Workload) and named out-of-district representatives, including Robert Miller to the Delaware County Community College and Rachel Holbert to the Delaware County Intermediate Unit. The presiding officer noted those committee appointments are made by the president and do not require separate board action.

The board approved the calendar of regular meetings for January through December 2026 after a motion and second; the approval was taken by voice vote and the transcript records "Aye" with no opposition noted. Brief member comments followed; the meeting was then adjourned.

The reorganization meeting sets the board leadership and committee structure that will guide the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District through the 2026 calendar year. Additional details on committee chairs and any subsequent formal votes will be reflected in future minutes if taken up.
