Fluvanna supervisors back resolution seeking new 'Virginia’s Piedmont' tourism region

The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution on Dec. 3 asking the Virginia Tourism Corporation to recognize Go Virginia Region 9 as a single tourism region to be called 'Virginia’s Piedmont Region.'
Ms. Smack, who presented the resolution, said the proposed region would unite Fauquier, Rappahannock, Culpeper, Orange, Madison, Greene, Fluvanna, Louisa, Albemarle, Charlottesville and Nelson under the same tourism identity, arguing that existing economic-development partnerships already operate as a unified area and that the designation would strengthen marketing and collaboration.
A board member confirmed that the region’s municipalities have coordinated on the application. The board voted in favor of the resolution; the chair recorded the vote as 5–0.
Staff said approving the resolution allows Fluvanna County to join the regional application process and help shape the region’s tourism promotion strategy going forward.
